Reading and Writing>What does "不甚感激" mean?
HashiriKata 05:18 PM 8th December 2008
As I understand it, 不甚 means "not very", such as 不甚乐观 (not very optimistic), 不甚诚实 (not very honest). But then, I came across this sentence:
希望您能不吝雅教, 我将不甚感激。
What does "我将不甚感激" really mean here? It can't mean "I'll be very grateful", can it?
(The context suggests this interpretation but the literal meaning seems to suggest the opposite here! :-))
Thanks,

A typo. Should be 不勝感激.

不甚感激 = 不怎么感激
不胜感激 = 非常感激

Thank you, it's a great relief to know. 不胜感激! :-)
(This problem should help me to remember that many Chinese speakers pronounce "n" and "ng" in the same way.)

不甚欢迎!...Oops! I mean 不胜欢迎!

Skylee is being very diplomatic in saying it is a typo. It is probably more correct to say that it is quite a common mistake in Chinese. |
